Doshas for Pisces: Kapha & Pitta

Caring for Kapha: Kapha represents the ability to be stable and have form and strength. Kapha is responsible for maintaining moisture levels in the body. This is to familiarize you with the sites of Kapha in the body and in no way is meant to replace medical advice. If you feel you have imbalances in these areas, a full consultation is recommended. The main sites of Kapha in the body are:
The Mind: Kapha protects the mind when balanced and thoughts are clear. When unbalanced, the mind becomes dull and sluggish; in this situation, avoid excessive sleep and find activities that stimulate the mind.
The Mouth and Tongue: Kapha is responsible for creating the correct amount of lubrication in the mouth and throat, allowing the taste buds to perform well. Unbalanced, there can be excessive saliva and mucous.
The Chest, Heart, and Lungs: Keeping the correct lubrication in these areas is crucial to health. Respiratory conditions can create excessive mucous in the lungs. The heart connection is related to attachment and grief. Letting go of things physically and emotionally is helpful.
The Joints: When joints are healthy, we enjoy ease of movement and often don't notice; when unbalanced, they can swell and cause pain with movement.
The Stomach: Balanced Kapha provides protection from excess acid in the stomach; when unbalanced, there can be excess mucous, nausea, and sluggish digestion.

Caring for Pitta Dosha: Pitta is the digester of all intakes, mentally and physically. The main sites for Pitta in the body are as follows.
The mind: What are you allowing to permeate your mind? Can you digest your intake? Is it aggravating the fire or soothing it? Spend time in silence.
The eyes: what images are you looking at? Are they soothing and easy to process, or are they disruptive? Make a habit of closing the eyes for at least 5 minutes several times a day; combine this with silence.
The lower half of the stomach and small intestine: when you eat, do you digest food well, or do you have trouble digesting? Is your elimination regular and easy (every morning and up to 3 times a day)? *
The liver: The liver can become overheated when digestion and elimination are disturbed, causing inflammation in the body.
The Skin: When balanced, Pitta dosha causes a beautiful pinkish glow to the skin. When unbalanced skin becomes red, and rashes develop.

Specific parts of the body associated with Pisces: Lymph system, Feet. To support lymph drainage practice daily or at least 3-4 times a week skin brushing followed by Abhyanga, and a hot bath or Sauna. Daily jumping on a rebounder is good, particularly after a hot shower. Lymph massage is also helpful if the body is heated first so fluids can move easily. Take special care of the feet with daily walking balanced with elevation, be sure to include your feet in dry skin brushing and abhyanga. A good daily yoga posture for you is Viparita Karani aka legs up the wall, if possible do this before bed, as it will also help you sleep. When unbalanced there will be allergies, edema, depression, emotional highs and lows and weak digestion leading to diabetes and heart weakness. Be aware and take extra care in these areas. Managing Kapha and Pitta will help.

Times of Day:
Prepare for the day with planning and movement 6-10 am

It may be helpful to write down all your activities and times you do them for a week to see if your current schedule resembles this and to prompt any creative changes you would like to bring.

General daily care for all: If you are not already doing this, add to your routine Eye washing, Tongue Scraping, Neti, and Abhyanga. This will clear your head allowing you to see with your physical and non-physical eyes. Also, food will taste better, you will have a fresher feeling mouth, and breathe better, which is everything. Finally, Abhyanga is an entire body treatment that envelops you in love and nourishment while beautifying and fortifying your skin.

Places: Oceans, watery places, sanctuaries.

Herbs and Flowers: I am keeping it simple by recommending a few outstanding herbs that work with the mind, creative, and digestive, systems activated in this course. In a general sense, these will help balance all body systems and are generally safe; however, please do your own research to determine if they are right for you.

1. Brahmi: A beautiful mind tonic that is gently stimulating and soothing all at once. With Brahmi, you can direct your mind in a very effective beneficial way and focus on what it is you are trying to do while at the same time not becoming overstimulated, so it's an exquisite balancer and the ultimate way to bring balance to people of all constitutions.

2. Culinary Rose Petals: An aphrodisiac that stimulates desire and will support you in your artistic expression.

3. Shatavari: An aphrodisiac that increases strength, rejuvenates the reproductive system, soothes the mind, and allows you to tap into your creation system.

4. Ashwagandha: An aphrodisiac, an adaptogen, and a rejuvenative; it increases Ojas, improves sleep, and supports you in your artistic expression.

5. Trikatu: For Scorpio this combo is perfect for sluggish digestion. A common imbalance for Pisces due to Kapha in the digestive tract; however, Trikatu is heating, so be mindful of aggravating Pitta in the lower digestive tract, which could show up as hot loose stools, or it could be dehydrating causing constipation.

Foods: My general food recommendations are to consume organic, seasonal, fresh, unprocessed food. However, it is essential to know the type of digestive system you have so you can quickly self-correct when you notice an imbalance. As a Pisces Ascendant, your digestive system combines Kapha and Pitta. It is essential to keep your diet light most of the time. Satisfy your sweet tooth with fruits. Overindulgence in sugary treats will cause an imbalance in the body and mind. A 70/30 approach would suit you well. 70 percent of the time, go for a light seasonal diet low in fat and grains with lots of vegetables and fruits; 30 percent of the time, indulge in healthy fats, grains, and sweets. You must keep your body and mind balanced to enjoy eating your favorite things. If you approach this with a healthy attitude and cultivate eating habits that are genuinely nourishing, you will avoid the pitfalls of overindulgence in foods that leave you undernourished and overweight. I highly recommend following the Ayurvedic food guidelines and avoiding the diet trap if you are in good health. True alchemy happens in your body when you feel nourished on every level of your being; this includes food and nourishment from love which connects you with your dharma to make your life a work of art. If your digestion becomes unbalanced, you may notice heartburn, sluggish digestion, and nausea, leading to water retention and eventually affecting elimination. A Kapha/Pitta pacifying diet will help.

Spices: A few key spices Kapha and Pitta share: Anise, Black Pepper, Cardamon, Cloves, Coriander, Cumin, Cinnamon, Mint, Mustard Seed, Nutmeg, Orange peel, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, Saffron, Sage, Thyme, Turmeric, Vanilla. *

Movement: Move your body to honor both the need to relax and the need to sweat. Do aerobic activities in the morning before 10:00. Do restorative yoga or other relaxing movements in the afternoon or evening hours. You will thrive on actions with a spiritual connection, such as a walk in the forest or near water. If you are working out in a place with a lot of activity, put in your earbuds and listen to high-frequency music.
